Bridges – Schegge is the first study of a collaboration along the Germany–Italy–Africa axis within the Bridges project, an international cultural and identity bridge.

The work draws its starting point from the concept of identity and self-development, focusing on the fragmentation and progressive loss of one’s memory and life history. The self fragments, then slowly crumbles away, leaving us exposed before the world — until all trace of one’s own story is lost.

The subtitle Schegge (Splinters) evokes fragments of a mirror: shattered images of memories that surface spontaneously and without logic — pieces reflecting a part of the body, a fragment of thought, a broken emotion, an element of beauty, the nature of a people. For what happens in the world around us is nothing but the reflection of what lives within us.
